2PM Be Back
Do you like this story?
Okay. Maybe this is not really a 'review,' but more of a freak out on how bad ass they are.
Today is the first day I heard their song "I'll Be Back."
First, I listened to the "Army Version," where, if I may say so myself, they looked pretty darn HOT!!
Costumes: Nice. Definitely fit to be call the "Army Version" of the song. The Black and white camouflage is a pretty predictable choice; you really can't have an "Army Version" without the basic army pattern. The black boots - self-explanatory. Then their 'tops,' I'm pretty sure are what had fan girls squealing. They don't seem to have anything else on other than these black army vests, which shows off all their muscular arms. For the Korean culture, apparently, it's scandalous to show the shoulder (which idols being the exception because it's like their 'costume')... anyway, there's a lot of nice, broad shoulders showing off there.
Music: It was really awesome. I definitely like it more than the "Rock Version," though I think part of it is because when say it was remixed to fit a certain genre, people expect it to be like that genre and have certain expectations. When it's, for example, the "Army Version," I think that the only expectations there is a manly image, maybe a little skin and muscle - which they showed off nicely. The 'gunshots' were a pretty nice touch to the remix.
Dance: Unlike the walking around in the "Rock Version," the walking and marching in this version is obviously choreographed. All the marching and walking were in sync and well choreographed to make the fan girls squeal about how manly and amazing and handsome and sexy their oppas are. However, there were two things that bothered me: 1 - The thumbs up in the beginning and the end. Maybe it's a 2 PM - Hottest thing that I don't understand because I'm more of a Shawol and ELF than I am a Hottest, but... it just bothers me. 2 - The break dance sequence. It's 2 PM - you do NOT need 20 or so back up dancers to come rushing in. My first thought was "Great. It's the Idol version of 'Where's Waldo?' Now who knows their favorite idols enough to pick them out?"
Overall: I think it was amazing. If they were trying to make all their fan girls squeal and faint, then they have definitely succeeded. They prove beyond a doubt that they can pull off both this manly and suave image and the cute image (doing parodies of girl group dances) and they pull off both of them very well. I'm not really a fan girl of their's, but I'm sitting here in front of my computer squealing like one. I'm sure the more inappropriate fan girls have certain thoughts that I won't mention going through their minds too.
Then, I listened to the "Rock Version," which I don't think was quite as awesome as the "Army Version," but it's still pretty cool. The beginning really threw me off. Either they suddenly realized they were late and so they were like, "RUN!!" or fans broke loose and they couldn't afford them to be kidnapped or something so, "RUN FOR YOUR LIFE AND THE OTHER HOTTESTS!!" The writing on the flag do remind me of rock bands like... KISS? (... wow... I think that's the only rock band I know. I'll have to touch up on my knowledge of rock bands.)
Costumes: I'm also not a fan of those sunglasses, but then again, I'm not a fan of sunglasses in general. Those short trench coats (whatever they're called) looked really good on them. A few of them have shirt that looks like they could be band t-shirts, but not for any bands that I know, so I wouldn't be able to tell the difference from this video. And of course, you can't pull off a rocker look without some decent black boots.
Music: Honestly, I think that their voices are too smooth for it to pass off as actual rock. I personally think that for rock, the voices should have a little more roughness to them, but then again, what do I know? I've already proved that my knowledge for rock music is quite lacking. (I prefer SHINee's "Rock Version" of 'Lucifer,' even if the only main difference is the addition of a few rock-like guitar riffs and the random appearance of f(x).)
Dance: It was decent, I guess. I didn't seem to see an actual dance sequence. There was some, but they did a lot of walking around in my opinion and didn't seem to be much actual dancing, aside from the break dance sequence. It's 2 PM, so of course, they have to have their break dance sequence, which was, of course, amazing. One of them threw in some abs for good measures. (I think they're actually trying to make their fan girls faint.) Then there was the what seems to be attempted head banging - I found it kind of adorable. They shouldn't have worn sunglasses if they wanted to head bang, or else either their sunglasses will fall off, or they end up with the attempted hand banging that was in the video. If they really wanted their sunglasses, there shouldn't have been any head banging in the choreography.
Overall: I don't think this was too well done. I think it was decent, though I'm sure their fan club, the Hottest, would tell me differently.
Then, finally, I looked for the original version, because they always say that the original is always the best, right? So, I watch the MV version with subs/lyrics. Um.. okay...
Costumes: Okay, I guess since they are idols that are already crazy popular, they don't need best name brand looking stuff. By this point in their career, I'm sure they have got those crazy fan girls that would squeal about how amazing they look, even if they were wearing a trash bag. (Actually, they'd probably prefer the trash bag. It'd expose their arms and legs... Those with inappropriate minds? Behave yourself.) I'm also not sure if it hot or cold; I see two turtleneck tank tops, two leather jackets with turtlenecks and a jean jacket with turtle necks. So their necks are cold? Also, Nichkhun, honey? Ditch the headband. It's just kind of... Hideous. Also, guy with what looks like a bondage face mask thingie. Ditch it. Please. The inappropriate fan girls of yours are probably have a field day with that. I don't even what to think of fan fic they could possibly be thinking of with you and that mask thingie in mind.
Music: Really, I don't think there's much to be said. I really like this song. I still can't help thinking of the Terminator every time I hear this song, but I still really like it. Hopefully, some time soon, my brain will be able to see them as separate entities.
Dance: For the general dance sequence, I can't say it's bad, but I can't say I like it. I'm just going to leave it at that for that. I will say, however, that there was enough marching that I can see why an "Army Version" would be an obvious choice for a cover of their own song. Then there's break dance sequence at the very end. Impressive as always. I can't get over the whole sequence, with the jump-through-the-hoop/arms thing (That was awesome.) and the guy picking up the other guy and just twirling him around. Wow. The strength that guy must have in order to do that!! The only bad thing I can say is that in the beginning of the break dance sequence, when they were all crouched on the ground. I was just waiting for a gunshot to go off, or someone to say, "On your mark! Get ready! GO!" (And by gunshot, I do mean the gunshot to start a race.)
Overall: Basically, I love the song, but I'm not a fan of the music video. Except the dance sequence. I love the dance sequence. I think that the "Army Version" still just pwns the original and the "Rock Version."
