More about Northern Italy...the saga continues!

Italy's regions are very different from each other, and that's not only geographically. The costumes, dialects and food in special varies much.
One of the northern regions is the Alto Adige, near to the border with Austria.
On that area, the cuisine has influences from Trentino Veneto, Lombardy and Hapsburg, and in the province of Bolzano the food habits are more German and Slavic.
It is true that iIn Trentino the polenta is very much consumed, but that's not all that there is.
Typical dishes from Habsburg, such as the goulash, the dumplings, sauerkraut and others are very commum.
But that's not all: they also have wonderful wines such as Groppello Revo, a good ruby red wine, and distillates made of pears, raspberries, plums, quinces, etc.. Their unique flavor is thanks to the 'addition of herbs, berries, roots and fruits of the high mountains.
In most mountainous areas there is a lot of cattle breeding, so the  milk production and products are very good: an excellent butter, different types of cheeses such as Trentingrana DOP, Casolet the Montesònl, the Spressa Giudicarie PDO, Asiago DOP and more.
They also have high quality vegetables, berries and honey, not forgetting about the various types of salami and mortadella
A nice thing to do is travelling by car from Italy to Austria, passing through different regions, seeing (and tasting!)their contrasts...do that and you will have food for the eyes, the body and the soul!
