Bae Yong-joon Signs Up for New korean TV Drama

Bae Yong-joon, the Korean actor who starred in the hit korean drama ``Winter Sonata,’’ will play King Kwanggaeto of the Koguryo Kingdom in the upcoming historical television series ``Taewang Sasingi.’’ The series will be produced by Kim Jong-hak and scripted by Song Ji-na, the team behind numerous popular dramas. It will comprise of 24 episodes, with the total budget estimated at 20 billion won. King Kwanggaeto was the greatest conqueror not only during the Three Kingdom period (57 B.C.-A.D. 688) but also throughout the country’s history. Under his reign, the territory of the kingdom was expanded to Manchuria, which currently belongs to China. With production to begin from October, the new series will be aired next year, but the network that will air it has not yet been decided. Bae, dubbed ``Yonsama’’ by his Japanese fans, became popular throughout Asia for his role in ``Winter Sonata.’’
