Learning Korean (word) 2. Colors(색깔)

색깔(Colors)

색 or 색깔 means color..

There are three different forms, verb ,noun and adjective(noun modifier) forms..

but here.. we'll just take a look at only two forms, noun and adjective forms..

Noun	Color	Adjective / Noun Modifier
파란색	Blue	파란
검정색	Black	까만
하얀색	White	하얀
빨간색	Red	빨간
노란색	Yellow	노란
초록색	Green	초록색
주황색	Orange	주황색
보라색	Purple	보라색
핑크색 / 분홍색	Pink	핑크색 / 분홍색
은색	Silver	은색
금색	Gold	금색
갈색	Light Brown	갈색
밤색	Brown	밤색
회색	Gray	회색

Let's take a look at the first color on the list

Blue..

The noun form is 파란색. When you simply say colors only you can use a noun form

For example,

This is blue. - 이것은 파란색이다.

but when you describe something you should use an adjective form (color +noun)

just like the followings

Blue flower -파란 꽃 (color: blue-파란 + noun: flower-꽃)

red book- 빨간 꽃 (color : red-빨간 + noun : book-책)

Useful expressions

-What color is it? 이건 무슨 색 이예요?

-It's white. 하얀색이예요.

-It's a red flower. 빨간 꽃 이예요.
